Pyrenean Mountain Dog

Jay Thorne - Pyrajay

I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to Judge one of the first shows following the ease of restrictions it was so nice seeing the joy on all the exhibitors faces getting back to the hobby they love. Thanks also to my stewards Tracy, Angie & Jenny for keeping the ring running efficiently. I was once again honoured by the support given to me by the exhibitors, for bringing such quality exhibits with some travelling a great distance.

I was especially pleased to see both my BOB and BPIB each take Group 3.

Puppy (2/2)

1.Spier’s Belshanmish Midnight Magic – 7 month old male of such quality, lovely masculine head with dark amber eyes, well set ears and good pigmentation. A well-constructed body with ample bone, a good level of angulation, tight feet and good tail set. Still has some growing to do and a little higher on the rear at the moment but showing great promise for the future. Well handled by his stand in handler and took the ring with unhurried ease and confidence. (BPIB & PGP3)

2. Williams & Hall Belahanmish Total Eclipse – 7 month old bitch and litter sister to the above. Pretty girl and again well-constructed with a finer head than the above, again dark amber eyes, well set ears and pleasing expression. Good amount of bone without being overdone, nice front assembly and moderate rear angulation. well-presented although less settled on the move than the first.

Special Yearling (1/1)

1.Henson & Dearman Lisjovia Witches Promise for Pyrekees – A pretty feminine bitch at just over 12 months of age with good strong pigment, nicely shaped almond eyes, well set ears of the correct size and proportion, well-constructed with a good depth of chest, good amount of bone and moderate angulation front and rear. Still needs to mature and grow into herself a little but I’m sure that will come with time. Moved with grace around the ring.

Post Graduate (2/2)

1. Shepheard Viskalys Hazuki for Avantgarde - A good sized dog, with well refined head, correctly shaped eyes, good pigmentation and well set ears. Nice balance of construction and well proportioned. Slightly finer in bone than the other exhibits with moderate front and rear angulation. A very happy boy on the move although a little close front and rear.

2.Morris & Tadd Pashme De La Vallee Du Girou with Kricarno (Imp Fra) - More compact in size than one with stronger head, good pigmentation, with correctly coloured dark amber eyes. Well-proportioned body with good depth of chest, good front assembly although I would prefer a little more angulation to the rear. Playful and a touch erratic on the move but still a young dog and I am sure he will settle with time and training.

Open Dog (4/3)

1.Downes CH Rivergroves all the right moves (Imp USA) – Has matured well from when I last judged him, a fine example of the breed with a striking outline, lovely expression and a strong ring presence. The head is correct in all proportions with no coarseness, strong pigment, dark amber eyes, close fitting lips and excellent dentition. The front assembly is excellent, good amount of bone and neat feet followed by the tail with the rare shepherd’s crook. Nicely presented and moved beautifully for his handler in the ring. (BOB & GP3)

2.Reilly's CH/Swiss/Ir/Multi/Int Ch Lisjovia Boris Bear at Darmaror JW ShCM ShCEx - A lovely masculine male with the beautiful Pyrenean smile and another worthy champion with great ring presence. Different in the head than the first, good eyes, pigmentation and a strong muzzle. Body of good size and substance with a well sprung chest. Strongly boned with excellent angulation both front and rear. Well presented. This boy always loves showing and moved freely around the ring. (RBOB)

3.Downes Belshanmish Orange Crush. Have always loved this boy and at seven years of age still gave the above a run for their money. Nice head with good dentition, lips, pigmentation and beautiful eyes. A well-constructed body with good angulation front and rear. Nicely presented and moved freely.
